Morning Light

Morning Light

'Morning Light' is one of my few giant linocuts. The design was inspired by a photo that I took in California of a dock. The dock was set on a vast area of shallow water in a strange landscape that had once been used for salt production. As a result the environment was damaged, and in certain areas it almost feels like you're walking on the moon. There are upcoming efforts to re-wild the wetland, but the oddness of the place in its current state is very striking.

The colour of the sky was a happy accident, but it really creates the feeling of sunrise. I always go into photoshop to test colours for my pieces before printing them. The day I was experimenting with colours for this piece my photoshop was glitching and only giving me really light, bright colours. My tendency is to go for darker, greyer tones, so it was almost like it was nudging me to try something different.

As all prints are hand pressed, each will have some minor differences, which I believe adds to the character of the print. I cannot guarantee that you will receive the edition featured in the photo.
