Being

Being

This piece is titled 'Being', and it is inspired by a painting done by my husband's great great grandfather that hangs in our bedroom.  The painting shows a crumbling Sicilian archway, while my print instead incorporates an ancient Roman aqueduct, also in ruin. The original painting has an almost transcendent quality that draws me into it, almost as though I could walk through the doorway.

In addition to speaking to the painting this print is also an ode to my years spent in Rome. During this period I passed days laying in parks, exploring the streets on solitary strolls and generally sinking into the joy of being amongst such beauty. This piece reminds me of summer afternoons spent having picnics in Villa Borghese, when my focus was solely on the gloriousness of the moment. I wanted to recreate the lulled afternoon warmth through the use of reds, oranges and beiges.

As all prints are hand pressed, each will have some minor differences, which I believe adds to the character of the print. I cannot guarantee that you will receive the edition featured in the photo.
