Within the Silence
23.5"x 16.5" linoleum print hand printed on a 31" x 21" sheet of Masa paper. Limited edition of 10.
I am drawn to the nude as a symbol of vulnerability and strength, and I am inspired by the way in which the posture of a body can offer information into the psyche of the person in the frame. I use my own body as a model, though I don't see my prints as self portraits but rather a space where one can project their own experience and emotional reality. What comes up for you when you look at this print?
The title of this piece is inspired by the wisdom I find in moments of quiet. Sometimes when I’m meditating, carving, drawing, or just doing a bit of cleaning, I begin to listen to the variety of sounds interacting around me. There is the gentle hum of the refrigerator, the rumble of the buses passing outside my window, and that almost inaudible ringing that fills the silence when I’m able to tune out my thoughts. As I focus on these elements outside of myself the voices in my head that feed messages of fear and unworthiness fade away. In their place I can begin to hear a different voice. One that speaks to me in the beating of my heart and in the release of tension in my stomach and limbs. This voice cuts through the tangle of uncertainty and assures of its intention to guide me as I make decisions and move through difficulty. I know that the answers I seek are in this place.
As all prints are hand pressed, each will have some minor differences, which I believe adds to the character of the print. I cannot guarantee that you will receive the edition featured in the photo. This print is shipped rolled in a tube.
